OpenAlex

OpenAlex is a scientometric database for searching scientific publications, a free and open catalogue of scientific articles, researchers, journals and institutions from all over the world. The service is enriched with information from open sources and maintains a database with the following types of objects:

Works – scientific documents (journal publications, books, datasets, preprints, theses etc.);

Authors;

Sources – place where scientific papers are published (journals, conferences, repositories);

Institutions – organisations, affiliations of authors in scientific papers;

Concepts (topics);

Publishers;

Funders – organisations that fund research;

Geo – geographical reference of entities (organisations).

The system calculates for authors, sources and organisations the simplest derived citation metrics:

- average number of citations over two years (analogue of impact factor)

- Hirsch index

- i-10 index (number of publications with 10+ citations)
